Our Dragon stem goblets are influenced by ornate glass vessels primarily from 17th-century Venice, recognized for their stems designed to mimic a dragon featuring a coiled body, spread wings, and frequently an open mouth and crest. These goblets included Dragons primarily to demonstrate sophisticated glassmaking craftsmanship and were highly prized during the Renaissance in Venice, with later reproductions made in the Netherlands.
Dragons are found in various artistic forms throughout Venice, including mosaics, paintings, reliefs, and sculptures. These depictions showcase unique and sometimes unusual dragon forms, like squishy crocodiles, long-necked geese, or composite monsters.
